BUILDING OUR HOME IN ANDERSON, SC

Jeanne and I returned to Anderson, SC in June of 1992 after our year on the road in our motor home. We needed to find a builder to construct our home on our lot that we had purchased our lot in 1986 as we were ready to "settle down". Well, actually Dave was ready but Jeanne would have loved to continue on traveling North America for years to come.

After contacting several builders we settled on The Home Place for several reasons.

  1. They made all their homes with 2"X6" with extra insulation.
  2. They would gladly take our rough floor plan we made while on the road and convert it into a complete construction blueprint.
  3. Their price was very reasonable, about $50/square foot.
  4. We inspected several of their homes, one completely finished and several in various stages of completion, e.g. framing almost completed. Their construction was very good.
  5. All the windown would be 3'X6' so more sunlight would stream into your home.
  6. They claimed they could finish the house in 90 days and has a guarantee to back it up. The guarantee was nothing exceptional, only a penalty on them of $10/day that they would be over the 90 days. As it turned out this cost them about $1,000!

Like the vast majority of home in the south there is no basement. Only a crawl space under the house that can range in height from 2' to 6'.

Please use the menu at the bottom of this page to read about and see photos of the construction of our home. All the photograph are clickable to see a larger size.

We hope you enjoy, as we did, seeing how our home was built. It was our first time to actually witness a house being built from the start to the finish. And to see our plans "come to life" was an experience we shall never forget.
