START UP WINDOWS

If you would like to start up Page Builder while reading my help pages, then click here to start Page Builder up in a new window.

NOTE: you are not downloading Page Builder! It is strictly an online editor, i.e. you can only use it if you are on the internet.

When Page Builder first starts, you should see these two small window below. If you don't then you may have a POP-UP AD BLOCKER installed and this is preventing Page Builder to load! If this is the case you can do one of three things:

  1. Set the Blocker to allow pop-ups on Geocities.Yahoo.com.
  2. Disable the Blocker temporarily.
  3. Uninstall the Blocker.

The two start up windows will look like this:

Yahoo! PageBuilder Loading
DO NOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW
The loading process will take several
minutes if you are using a modem.

You can safely shrink down both of these windows. The little house being built should cycle about 5-7 several times before the editor will appear on the screen. If, however, it cycles through more than 7 times, Page Builder probably will not launch and you should close both Page Builder windows and try again later. When Page Builder does successfully launch, this window appears:

This is the actual Page Builder being run from your PC. When it is fully loads, it will automatically convert to a full size screen. At this point you can being editing old pages or creating new pages. The previous little house animation will now look like this:

DO NOT CLOSE EITHER THE 'LOADING' OR 'RUNNING' WINDOWS!. Just SHRINK THE 'RUNNING' down by clicking on the underline in the upper right hand corner.

It will take some time to load Page Builder so please be patient. But be aware that it may not load due to a server error or Yahoo! is working on the Page Builder, so if after several minutes if you don't reach the main screen (shown below), then bring up the LOADING WINDOW and close it. Then, try loading Page Builder later.

When Page Builder finally loads you will see a page that has this in the upper left portion of the screen.

SPECIAL NOTE ON PAGE SIZE
The initial page size, 642X1003 pixels, may be too small for the material you wish to put on your page. To increase the page size you click on FORMAT|PAGE PROPERTIES and then change the height to a larger number. It is not recommended that you increase the width to more than 750 as then some surfers may see a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of their screens. Most webbies have monitor that are normally set to 800X600 pixel resolution.

I recommend that you do not increase the page size by increasing the height as this will cause visitors to have to use a rather large vertical scrollbar. Rather, make a new page(s) and then add links to these new pages.

At the top of the screen is the TOOLBAR AND ICONS,

some of which are duplicated of each other. Generally you will be using the ICONS to construct your page. But you should review the TOOLBAR FUNCTIONS to be aware of tools what are available to you.
