NEWBIEITIS Pronounced new-B-itis. Not be confused with computerphobia
Newbieitis is a wide spread affliction that is common in both men and women who recently acquired a computer and thought it would be fun to go online. A prolonged affliction of this may lead to the more advanced stage of PageBuilder Addiction.

DEFINITION - One who is new to use of computers and attempts to use various aspects of the internet, especially the building of web pages, without any knowledge of what they are doing. Generally, those afflicted tend to think that if a 9 year old can do it, so can they.

SYMPTOMS - Sudden loud crying and, in extreme cases, slobbering which tends to drip on the keyboard rendering it useless until it is replaced. If the keyboard is working, they may exhibit SHOUTING in help chat rooms using the following expressions: HELP!, CAN SOME ONE HELP ME?, and similar renditions.

These people generally have no idea what they are doing, especially if they stumbled into an editor that makes a web page. Additionally, if they happened to do something on the web they have no idea what they did or how to duplicate the process that produce the results they saw on their monitor.

The above symptoms generally disappear after a few session in Help Chat but unusual cases may last for weeks.

TREATMENT - The only known cure for this affliction is kindness, understanding, and patience. If these patients are treated with contempt or subjected to humiliation, they may never approach a computer again.

NOTE: Do not under any circumstance ask one of these people in the early stage for the URL of a page they made. This will only result in a huh? and a blank expression on their face. Use the word, address and give them an example. In some cases, asking them for their GeoCities member name may assist you in their treatment.
